My first objective is to get to know the student and at what level they are so that I can build and customize my teaching skills. I usually like to start off each session with a brief review of what we have done and what I would like to accomplish in the coming session. Next, I introduce a generic topic/concept and go over core principles and logic, instead of rote memorization. Then we work through problems or exercises together. The student takes the lead as much as possible, with me providing immediate feedback and prompts. Finally, I would end the session with a summary and assign targeted practice problems for the student to work on before our next meeting. I am comfortable with K-12 class topics, specifically math and physics.
