About Alena

I have previously worked as a volunteer with children of different ages. I had the pleasure of getting to know them both personally and professionally while helping them improve in areas they struggled. My aim is to inspire and encourage students with math while also providing a comfortable one-on-one learning environment for them. My teaching style is centered around targeting areas where improvement is needed and devising a lesson plan tailored to the student's needs. As someone myself, who has experience as a student in elementary, secondary, and now university level math, I believe a deep understanding of concepts is a crucial part of learning at these early stages of math, but is unfortunately something that is often overlooked. As a result, I will always try to make use of as many tools as possible (e.g. images, texts) as well as student suggestions in order to help them fully understand the topic at hand.

About the lesson

- First have an introductory lesson where I get to know the student's learning status. Will then use this to assess strengths, weaknesses, and how to progress from there. - Will do my best to incorporate as many tools as possible to help students understand concepts (e.g. visual, text, etc.), and incorporate appropriate practice/amount of practice - Lessons are aimed at students grade 10 or anything below for math.
