About Danielle

I am a recent college graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in Political Science. I achieved my Bachelor's degree in three years and now have a gap year to spend working and helping students before I begin law school next year.
I have experience with tutoring high school students in the areas of English, Social Studies, Algebra, and Biology. More specifically, I have assisted high school and college level students with numerous writing assignments that have resulted in high grades and improvement in academic writing. My Political Science coursework has given me expertise in working with students on all areas of social sciences including history, government, and economics. My educational background has given me different materials and approaches needed to help students improve on basic skills and excel in their coursework.

About the lesson

As a young tutor and a recent full-time student, I aspire to build on the knowledge of students who are wanting to improve their skills by bringing curiosity and excitement into each lesson. I enjoy a dynamic teaching style that enables the student to feel comfortable asking questions and communicate their learning preferences. I aim to develop a tutor-student relationship that allows interactive lessons and maximum learning opportunity with clear academic goals in mind.
While I can effectively teach topics ranging from Math to Science, my strongest skills align with tutoring in English, Writing, and Social Studies coursework for high school and college students. I would be an excellent resource for those seeking help in reading comprehension and interpretation, grammar, vocabulary, and the structuring of outlines and essays for creative and literary work. I can provide in depth assistance for content involving literature, US and world history, current issues, and government.
My teaching method includes the highlighting of a student's strengths to assess and improve on his/her weaker areas. I value learning the student's reservations surrounding the schoolwork in hopes to focus our time on the aspects that the student would find most helpful. I approach each topic by clarifying what is required of the student in order to simplify our goals and better understand the material we focus on. Once I have recognized a student's learning style and reviewed the area(s) needing assistance, I am able to narrow down the methods most effective in achieving the student's understanding. I will acknowledge the exercises, explanations, and notes that work for the student and provide more of these resources that allow us to dive deeper into the material.
