About Anna

I am a Chartered Professional Engineer in structural façade engineering with over 7 years of industry experience. I began tutoring Mathematics during my university years and continued while working full-time. Although I took a short break to focus on my engineering career, becoming a parent reignited my passion for teaching. Supporting my daughter’s learning reminded me how much I value helping young children grow in confidence and ability.

My own journey with Math was not always smooth. As a child, I struggled and even failed several assessments in primary school. I understand firsthand how discouraging Math can feel when concepts don’t make sense. Through persistence and by developing methods that helped me truly understand the “why” behind the steps, I gradually transformed Math into one of my strongest subjects, achieving excellent results in both VCE and university.

Because of this experience, I am patient and empathetic with students who find Math challenging. I believe that with clear explanations, structured practice, and encouragement, every child can improve. Math may feel scary at first, but with the right guidance, it becomes manageable — and even enjoyable. My goal is to help students build both skill and confidence that lasts beyond the classroom.

About the lesson

I have been tutoring Math to young children for about 8 years since I was a University student. My lessons are structured, engaging, and designed to build strong mathematical foundations while developing independent problem-solving skills.

Each session is 60 minutes and tailored to the student’s level and learning pace.

Grade 1–4 (Group 60 Minutes)

For younger students, I focus on mastering addition and subtraction while building strong number sense. Students nearing the end of Grade 2 are gradually introduced to multiplication tables (up to 10 or 15), with the goal of full multiplication mastery by Grade 4. Lessons include clear explanations, guided practice, and fun math games to reinforce learning.

Grade 5–6 (Group 60 Minutes)

Each lesson begins with a multiplication table drill (up to 15) to strengthen speed and accuracy. Strong times table knowledge makes fractions, decimals, and word problems much easier to understand. I provide step-by-step explanations, followed by guided and independent practice. Lessons often end with fun math games or Olympiad-style questions for students who enjoy a challenge.

Grade 7–10 (Group 75 minutes)

Depending on the students' level, lessons begin with mental arithmetic or multiplication drills. Core concepts are explained clearly using worked examples and visual demonstrations. Students then attempt questions independently, with guidance and feedback. From time to time, we conduct revision sessions and tackle non-routine questions that develop deeper thinking and problem-solving skills.

My goal is not just to help students get the correct answers, but to help them understand the concepts and gain confidence in Math.
