About Heather
I was a Vocational and Instructor for a Community Living for over 25 years for both children and adults. From 2017 until 2023, I worked for the Public and Catholic School Boards as an Education Assistant (E.A.) During this time I also worked with a summer camp, as an Instructor for children. In 2023, I opened up an Academic Base Child Care, that focused on learning day to day skills according to the child's ability.

1. I start with an Assessment of where the person is supposed to be at.
2. Do a refresher lesson at where they actually are at.
3. Put in building blocks to build their skills upward.
4. Teach according to what makes sense in their head.
5. Have the person repeat what the instructions are and what that means to them.
6. Have the child show the work, break down math, or spelling, as it gives a solid foundation when things are visual.
7. Have visual items, as in cubes, buttons, etc., that can be seen, and even picked up. Makes more concrete in the mind.
