About Kate

Hi there! My name is Kate and I currently work for a biotech company doing scientific research every day. I came from failing my first physics exam to acing not only that course but subsequent more advanced physics courses too. I know how frustrating learning can be, but I've seen how life-changing it can be too. I love to watch students grasp concepts, break barriers in what they thought was possible, and develop love for science and math. I'm friendly, passionate, and will definitely message to see how the test went :)

About the lesson

When I tutor I like to take a tailored approach. Each student has different styles of learning and different needs that they come to tutoring for. As a baseline I like to schedule a regular tutoring session where we can review main concepts, problem sets, and really hone in on areas of confusion/improvement. Depending on the student's needs I can offer help with homework/test prep, review confusing concepts, create tailored problem sets and/or learning aids focused on weakest points, and offer study plans for the student outside of sessions to optimize learning and success. As a start I like to meet with the student, find out what they hope to get out of our tutoring sessions, what learning styles/approaches have worked for them in the past, and find out more specifically about the courses they are taking (syllabus, textbook, etc.). From there we can devise a game plan best suited to the student's needs - maybe the student would do best under a mainly problem-driven session or maybe the student needs visual aids to learn concepts better - whatever it is I want to help the student with their biggest challenges in a way that suits them as that may evolve over time. I offer tutoring in math and science for middle school through high school as well as for college courses in Biology, Neuroscience, Calculus, Physics, and Chemistry. I have tutored for LearnToBe (an online volunteer platform) as well as tutored in person K-12 for 4 years. I'm friendly and very responsive and excited to help students learn!
