About Jess
I am a Nebraska native who graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a B.S. in Mathematics. As an undergraduate I was a member of the Pi Mu Epsilon honor society and tutored outside of the university. Because of a high math GPA, I was automatically accepted into the graduate program, where I taught Basic Mathematics, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 as a graduate teaching assistant. I am passionate about making math accessible to everyone and helping students build confidence in their reasoning abilities.

Having struggled with math in high school, I understand where things can go wrong and be confusing. It wasn't until I had a great instructor in college that I learned how to "diagnose" and solve problems. My approach to teaching is to listen, identify where the disconnect is happening, and use individualized strategies and techniques to spark an aha! moment. I believe learning is a 50/50 effort between teacher and student, a back-and-forth conversation about what is working and what needs to be explained in different terms. My primary focus is algebra students, but I also enjoy working with lower grade levels.
