About Samantha

I have written more short stories than I've had hot meals, and am currently working on my debut novel (among several other pet projects). My English GCSEs were As and A*s, so I went on to study English Literature at A Level. I then graduated from a University in a rural Welsh village last year, with a degree in Creative Writing and English. I have a deep passion for creativity and language, and would love to help people develop their inner writer. Before I went to university, I thought the only thing I struggled with was ending a story. Granted, that was my main weakness back then, but I could never have predicted how I would grow as an author. I have gained so many skills during my studies, especially living in the heart of poetry and beauty that is the Welsh Valleys.

I have always been deeply passionate about English language and literature, I'm sure I could read before I could walk! I obviously have my favourites, but I will read and analyse every and any book put in front of me. I can teach at any level, from pre-school to undergraduate, including English as a Foreign Language. I adapt my teaching structure easily to my students, learning about their unique study styles as we go. My aim is to shape my lessons into a fun, inspiring and nurturing journey, allowing the students to discover with their own intuition whilst guiding them to the appropriate depth of learning. I want my students to emerge with not only the grades they hope for, but the life skills that come attached to an understanding of language and literature. For little ones, I can focus on the school's targets, such as grammar, semantics, spelling, sentence structure and so on, whilst encouraging creativity (and that childhood imagination we all miss so much) in their writing exercises. As the age increases then, I am happy to take on any students who may find certain areas of English lessons to be difficult, for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, whilst class teachers do their best, in a class full of 30 they cannot tailor the subject matter to every individual's method of learning. It can be as simple as changing the order of words in a sentence that can help a child understand the lesson, and there is no greater feeling than seeing a light flick on in a student's eyes! Moving up to GCSE level, I can provide tutoring in line with the student's curriculum. I have a wealth of learning supplies, and can provide books for annotations, audiobooks, scribing, and other assisted learning materials. I can simulate mock test conditions and then run through the marking criteria to help the student understand what is required of them academically. A Levels tend to allow a bit of room for movement and independent thought for students, so this is where my teaching structure can start to shift. Undergraduate degrees carry mainly independent research. Here, I can offer assistance in course resources as well as support for the extra stress university can bring - being away from family can be so difficult, and admitting you need some help can be challenging. I am able to tutor not only in course material, but how to get the most out of your university education. I also have experience working as a teaching assistant in an SEN school, so am happy to take on students with any specific areas of assistance. I believe every child learns differently, and no child should be left behind. We all have a right to a healthy education. I hope that you can get an idea of the kind of tutor I am. Please feel free to drop me a message, I can run lessons via webcam, phone calls, face to face or even over emails. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
