About Lara

I am a current University Student majoring in Biomedical Engineering, minoring in Computer Science, and in the Interdisciplinary Honors Program for literature and writing. I am also a member of my University's professional fraternity; aiming to promote values of unity, brotherhood, service, integrity, and knowledge throughout my professional and personal life. For nearly 2 years I have been a volunteer tutor for high school students and fellow university students. I love the collaborative environment of the engineering specialty and those values carry throughout my academic and professional life. I aim to improve a student's academic understanding, inspire applications of teamwork, and improve collaborative skills. I specialize in high school and university level mathematics, science subjects, and essay aid. I love to help friends and family with subjects such as homework help, essay writing improvement, proper studying habits, and resume building. With my experience in tutoring and technological fields, I am very adept at online teaching, aid, and communication with students.

About the lesson

I offer lessons for adolescent and adult students specializing in high school and University level mathematics and STEM fields. Including but not limited to Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus (I and II), Physics (High school and University Level - both Algebra based and Calculus based), AP Biology, AP Statistics, Computer Science (Java), and Essay writing. My preferred teaching method is by introducing the topic with definitions, visuals, and going over examples; then spending time working through various problems of increased difficulty with students. Both the introduction of the topics and the practice is a hands-on approach (virtually) with direct involvement with students; rather than a "lecture-and-listen" style approach. We will often use PDF worksheets to be printed at home and fill-in-the-blank lesson guides to aid the students understanding of subjects. If student has worksheets, homework or assignments from a specific course we will spend time going through those with the addition of supplemental materials to improve their understanding of the subject. This teaching method improves informational retainability of subjects and shows the connections between academic knowledge and its real-world applications. Additionally, the collaborative approach aids students' future academic and professional teamwork skills.
