About Ethan

Hi, my name is Ethan and I am currently undertaking an integrated masters in Medicinal Chemistry at The University College of London a top 10 world-renowned university (QS World University Rankings). I have been using the mytutor platform for almost half a year, and have taught other students for over 2 years at my high school.

I chose to study medicinal chemistry at UCL because I fell in love with the extra option I chose during my time doing chemistry in the IB. It is a true bridge between biology and chemistry, and allows me to utilize my creative, collaborative, and hard working skill set. I completed my international baccalaureate at the original school which created the program. I was therefore very fortunate to have been taught by some of the best teachers, who have shown me just how important having a good educator is.

I come from a very mixed background given that my parents are from England and Panama, as well as the fact that I was born in Kansas City, and grew up in Switzerland and Kenya. I love getting to know new people from a range of diverse cultures, and would be really excited to get to know you, and help you succeed.

My style of teaching is generally dictated by the subject which I am tutoring. Therefore for example in subjects where techniques and equations are important like chemistry I like to use problem based learning, whereas with biology I will generally teach the material, and follow up by using questions concerning the covered material. I am not a fan of just reading from a book so I will try my best to keep the lessons interactive. I can also help students to understand their homework by showing them my ways of learning. Such as in biology where I use certain mnemonics to remember. My tutoring style is also heavily dependent on the style of learning which the student succeeds best with. I will usually ask the student to take a short test to find out how they like to learn, and carry on from there. So for example I am personally an audiovisual learner so like to watch videos where someone is explaining rather than simply reading a textbook.
