About Soderberg
I received my bachelor's at SUNY at Fredonia in Adolescence Education for Mathematics. I completed my student teaching in NYC where I gained a wealth of information on how to successfully teach math to struggling students. After my schooling, I started my career at Jamestown Public Schools, teaching Algebra in a long-term substitute position. I then ended my long-term substitute position and gained a full-year position at Erie 2-BOCES in their alternative education department. I have now been at BOCES for approximately 9 years and have taught the following: 7th grade math, 8th grade math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. While teaching at BOCES, I also completed a master's program in Curriculum and Instruction with a STEM pathway through Empire State College.

I believe in teaching the foundations and the reasoning behind mathematics, vs the formulas. When students have a deeper understanding of mathematics, then the formulas become natural. When students are taught to memorize formulas, they can become frustrated because they don't understand the meaning behind the formulas. Through my masters, I have been able to adapt curriculum to better my students and teach the material in a way that students can understand.
