About Orla
I am a passionate Math tutor with over 7 years of experience helping students achieve their academic goals. I hold a BSc in Mathematics and Statistics, which has equipped me with a strong foundation and a clear understanding of how mathematical ideas interconnect. I have worked extensively with high school students preparing for IB and A-Level examinations, allowing me to refine my approach to suit these challenging curricula.
My teaching focuses on building deep conceptual understanding rather than memorization. I encourage students to explore the reasoning behind each method so they can apply their knowledge confidently. My teaching approach focuses on building strong mathematical understanding while preparing students for high-stakes exams. I work with students across core Math areas as well as test-focused subjects for exams like the SAT, GRE, and GMAT. Each lesson is designed to balance conceptual clarity with practical application. I ensure students understand the “why” behind every method before moving to speed and accuracy.
I use targeted drills to strengthen specific weak areas. These are combined with regular practice tests to simulate real exam conditions. This helps students manage time effectively and stay calm under pressure. I also teach efficient problem-solving techniques that save time during exams. Small strategies can make a big difference.
A key part of my method is identifying common pitfalls. I guide students to recognize traps and avoid careless mistakes. We work on strategy development to maximize scores. This includes question selection, pacing, and smart guessing when needed.
I also bring in insights from the history of mathematics to make learning more engaging and meaningful. This helps students connect with the subject on a deeper level.
