About Tobias

Hello! I'm a graduate with a Master's in Mathematics from the University of Alberta, and a BSc in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Trent University right here in Peterborough. I worked as a tutor throughout my time at Trent, and have worked in mathematics tutoring centres both at Trent and University of Alberta. I currently teach mathematics and science part-time at Fleming's Academic Upgrading centre.

About the lesson

I believe that the best way to learn mathematics is through practice, and that everyone has the capability to learn. I will work through examples with the student, guiding with leading questions where possible and explaining concepts in new ways where there is confusion. I also like to work through class notes with students, going through examples provided more slowly and providing extra insight. I have experience working with adults and teenagers, although I would be willing to work with younger children. My Master's gives me a keen understanding of the reasoning behind why mathematics works the way it does, while my theatre background and years of experience tutoring have made it easy for me to connect with people and learn how they think about mathematics. Most people find me a patient, compassionate, encouraging tutor, and I'm excited to explore mathematics with you!

Travel expense fee depends on distance travelled. I charge a cancellation fee of half the price of the lesson if a lesson is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, with possible exceptions in case of emergency.
