About Crystal

I've spent years working as a travel photographer, documenting stories across many countries, and that visual, narrative-driven background still shapes almost everything about how I teach today. Nine years into teaching now, I've worked with about one hundred seventy-five students, many of them travelers or simply people who find dry classroom material genuinely uninspiring to sit through. My photography background gives me a naturally visual, storytelling teaching style, treating language learning a bit like building a genuine narrative, image by image, story by story. I connect particularly well with students who respond to visual, narrative-based learning rather than dry theory disconnected from anything tangible or personally meaningful. My teaching style is visual, warm, and genuinely story-driven, built on the belief that real experience and genuine observation naturally open real, engaged conversation. I take genuine pride in watching a student confidently tell a genuine story or describe a photo entirely in English for the first time. Many students tell me they finally look forward to lessons, partly because we're usually discussing something they genuinely enjoy exploring together through images. My approach treats language as something to be captured and shared, not just studied. After nine years, I remain genuinely passionate about this visual, story-driven teaching approach.

I've spent years travelling and photographing stories around the world, and my lessons lean heavily on genuine imagery and storytelling rather than dry, disconnected textbook material. Every lesson often starts with a photo, mine or the student's own, describing it together in detail, since storytelling through images naturally builds rich, descriptive vocabulary quickly. We build narrative language constantly, past tense storytelling especially, since describing what happened in a photo naturally requires exactly the grammar most learners genuinely struggle with. Vocabulary grows around place, culture, and observation, genuinely interesting words tied to real experiences rather than abstract, forgettable lists studied in isolation. I encourage students to describe their own travel memories or dream destinations, building genuine, personal speaking practice tied to something they're actually excited to discuss. Listening practice sometimes uses travel documentaries and photographer interviews, exposing students to natural English wrapped around genuinely engaging visual storytelling content. I keep lessons visual and narrative-driven, closer to sharing stories over photos than sitting through a formal classroom lesson, since that atmosphere genuinely helps students open up. Writing practice includes captioning photos or writing short travel narratives, applying new vocabulary in a genuinely creative, personally meaningful way. Every lesson leaves students with language that feels genuinely vivid, not mechanical.
