About LeAnn

I am a master's-trained educator, lifelong learner, and recovering perfectionist who genuinely believes that mistakes are part of the ebbs and flows of growth. As one of my former professors often reminded me, “Done is good” -- a lesson I bring to every tutoring session. I have worked with learners navigating executive dysfunction and understand that progress may require patience, flexibility, encouragement and strategies tailored to the individual. I value the time and trust of every person I work with, and nothing makes me happier than seeing someone’s confidence and abilities shine. Even my first homemade focaccia looked pretty rough, but each one since has arguably been better than the last. Writing works the same way: Growth happens through practice, thoughtful feedback, and the courage to keep trying.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach aims to be encouraging, collaborative and tailored to each writer’s goals. A typical lesson begins by reviewing your assignment, draft, or resume and identifying the areas where you would most like support. From there, we can brainstorm ideas, strengthen your thesis, organize your argument, refine sentence-level clarity, and/or work through your revisions together. I want to do more than just correcting your writing, so I will be sure to explain the reasoning behind my feedback and offer practical strategies you can apply independently in the future. With an M.A. in Cultural Studies (CGU), a multidisciplinary academic background (Sociology and Ethnic Studies BA, UCSD) & experience supporting diverse learners across classroom, home, museum and event-space settings, I bring a dynamic, student-centered perspective that honors each person’s individual voice. My lessons are designed for high school, college, and graduate students seeking support with essays and theses, as well as job seekers looking to create polished, compelling resumes.

My hourly rate is intentionally lower than the $30+ rate I typically charge as a paid private tutor. I have supported five high school graduates with their writing and college applications, each of whom was accepted to a college they hoped to attend. My formal experience teaching students across TK–12 classrooms has also been invaluable, continually expanding my toolkit for explaining ideas clearly, adapting to different learning needs and mentoring students with both patience and constructive encouragement.
