About Zaynab

Hi, my name is Zaynab. I am a trainee lawyer at the Government Legal Department and a graduate from the University of Oxford with a passion for learning and teaching law.

I thoroughly enjoyed studying law at Oxford; however, understand the unique challenges brought by studying such a demanding degree! I hope to use the skills and knowledge I have acquired through studying and practicing law to help current students through their own legal journey.

As well as studying law at Oxford, I have undertaken internships at the Law Commission for England & Wales, Morgan Sports Law, Toynbee Hall, and the Oxford Environmental Sustainability Team.

My plethora of legal experiences enables me to give you a rounded experience as your tutor. I will be able to support you through your academic and practical legal journey!

About the lesson

teaching methodology 1:
A typical lesson will mirror an Oxford-style tutorial. I will begin by testing foundational knowledge of the topic through directed questions and a constructive conversation. The student will be able to ask questions on difficult areas, to better solidify their understanding of the topic.

I will then build on the student's foundational knowledge through a more open conversation on the contentious issues in the area of law. This will enable the student to deepen their understanding of the law and engage critically with the challenges present in the law.

teaching methodology 2:
My lessons are also tailored at the request of my students. Such lessons are generally problem or essay question focused.

I will talk the student through the stages of (a) identifying the key issues in an exam question (b) planning a coherent, structured response to the question (c) developing rich analysis of the issues to reach a conclusion(s).

Whereas teaching methodology 1 is more substance focused, teaching methodology 2 hones in on exam-specific skills, and strategising approaches to exam questions.

The length of the lesson can be tailored to suit the student's needs, but typically will last around one hour.

the student:
My lessons are for law students seeking extra support during their challenging university studies, and also for high school students applying for law.

my experience:
I have an LLB from the University of Oxford. I graduated with an average of 69%, with first-class marks in my undergraduate dissertation, EU law, and Contract Law modules. I further attained 69% in Public Law. My consistently high marks demonstrate my aptitude and passion for law which will be evident during my tutoring sessions. I have a keen interest in the legal system which I am eager to share with my students.

In addition, I have mentored and tutored students in law for over five years. I have mentored Oxbridge applicants, tutored undergraduate law students seeking additional advice, as well as postgraduate students seeking to develop their legal thinking and writing skills.

In the past, I tutored in a range of high school subjects including: Mathematics, English, and French. My tutoring experience has honed my teaching and communication skills, making me a highly competent tutor.
