About Christina

I am a Colorado native. I have four children and a fiancé. I love music, especially 80s music. I particularly love hair bands and the ballads they sing. My favorite pastime is watching old TV shows with my kids and listening to audiobooks. I embrace my wisdom and all the lessons I've learned in my life. I'm not the traditional teacher, I can't pretend to be. I like dancing in my classroom and having students work on the whiteboard. I don't have a favorite color, I love the rainbow. I'm a New Orleans Saints football fan since I was a kid. I admire the Ancient Egyptian history and embrace my Hispanic culture. My favorite food is tacos and I love me some Lipton iced tea. My teaching philosophy: I can only show you information, I can't make you want to learn it. The decision to learn must come from you. Learn with Ganas and you will enjoy learning.

About the lesson

I enjoy teaching with different methods. They can either be teacher-centered or student-centered, based on the student age and subject matter. In math, my teaching methods and techniques are traditional and more teacher-driven. I find scaffolding, drill & practice, and peer-to-peer learning work best for this area of academics. In science, my teaching methods and techniques focus more on cross-curricular methods with Socratic Questioning as a foundation for learning. I break my lessons down to meet a student at their academic level. This allows me to fill in the gaps of missing skills while I bring the new information into the present. I work with a wide variety of students with different academic strengths. These strengths may come from non-traditional places, however, the learning can still be incorporated wherever the students' needs are at the time. The bottom line is this for me, respect is a key factor in teaching students from any part of the world. When a student knows you truly do care about their education, it's harder for them not to care themselves. I believe in education. I believe education is my freedom and I want to share my personal freedom with students.
