About Amanda
I spent years on tour as a musician, picking up language skills the unconventional way, through actual people, actual conversations, and a lot of trial and error along the road. Ten years into teaching now, I've worked with about two hundred forty students, many drawn specifically to a looser, more real-world approach than traditional classroom English offers. I never trained formally as a teacher, and I say that honestly, because my real strength is understanding how language actually sticks when it's tied to something a person genuinely cares about. I connect particularly well with creative, curious students who felt bored or unmotivated by traditional lessons, since I learned everything the unconventional way myself. My teaching style is relaxed, conversational, and shaped heavily by music and real-world immersion rather than formal academic structure. I care far more about a student genuinely connecting with the language than about textbook perfection on a page somewhere disconnected from real use. Watching a student get excited enough to seek out songs or shows in English on their own remains genuinely the best part of this work for me. If you want English that feels alive rather than academic, I think we'll get along well.

I spent years touring internationally with a band, picking up bits of language from bandmates, crew, and fans in every city we played, long before I ever taught a lesson. My teaching reflects that scattered, real-world way of learning, built around genuine conversation and immersion rather than a fixed, linear textbook path. Lessons often start with music itself, lyrics, interviews, artist commentary, since songs were genuinely how I absorbed rhythm and phrasing long before I understood the grammar behind them. I teach vocabulary the way it actually landed for me, in clusters tied to real situations, backstage chats, ordering food after a show, texting new friends in another country. Grammar gets explained when it naturally comes up in something we're discussing, rather than front-loaded as a wall of rules before any real conversation happens. I encourage a lot of listening to real, unscripted speech, podcasts, interviews, voice notes, since that messy, natural pace is genuinely how fluency clicked for me eventually. Mistakes get treated like just another verse that needs a rewrite, not a big deal, since I made constant embarrassing ones touring and turned out fine regardless. I keep lessons loose and student-led, adjusting based on whatever a student's actually curious about that day. This is English built from real life, not from a textbook.
