About Maia
Hi! My name is Maia Houston. I’ve taken 6 APs and plan to take 3 more to round out my senior year. However, high school isn’t all about books. I’m also a varsity athlete with a two-year MVP streak, the past debate club president, and a volunteer with 170+ hours at my local Boys and Girls Club. Even with all these extracurriculars, I achieved a top 5 ranking at my school, so I know how difficult it is to balance life with school. So I promise you if we work together I will be understanding and patient because I want you to succeed as I have.

I know the difficulty of English. Despite being a native speaker, I couldn’t even read till the third grade and scored below grade level until 5th. Now, I earned a 5 on my AP English test and got an A in the class—even with a strict teacher. At first, language seems nebulous, especially when coming from highly structured classes like AP Physics or even AP US History, which provide step-by-step units. However, I promise you there is a method. From rhetorical analysis to synthesis, I can coach you on how to earn a passing grade with mathematical precision.
