About Amilcar

I have an AA in Music Composition and am a graduate of the University of Maryland. My group Trio Caliente has won several prestigious Washington Area Music Awards (WAMIs) including Best Latin Band and I have been nominated as Best Instrumentalist. I also currently tour internationally with the Emmy Award winning artist Benise and have appeared in Benise's "FIesta" PBS special ( (concealed information) ). Some of my original music has also been featured in short films and TV shows such as "Chelsea Lately", "Smash" and "National Geographic". In the two decades I've been teaching guitar I've taught hundreds of people from all ages and levels to play their favorite songs and to express themselves through music. It's incredibly satisfying to see someone who initially claimed to have no musical ability accompany herself singing on the guitar after a few months or a folk-guitar playing retiree rip through a flamenco piece he never dreamed of being able to play! About the lesson

Whatever your musical goal may be, I have the educational background and teaching experience to take you there! Years of flamenco, classical and jazz studies at the university level with phenomenal instructors have left me uniquely qualified as a guitarist. And over two decades of imparting knowledge in a FUN and RELAXING way has given me the experience to become a patient teacher who gets great results! Several of my students have gone on to prestigious conservatories, started successful bands and have students of their own!
