About Elena
Back when I began to work with students I was a student myself. At the age of fourteen, I got my first job as a rowing coach. I had the experience of working with students, around my age, and helping them to learn how to begin a new sport. Through that experience I learnt of my love for teaching. As I entered high-school I began a tutoring business for middle-school students (aged 10-13). I then shifted that experience into experience with younger students. I started at South Shore Charter Public School as a substitute teacher for the elementary school (ages 6-9). It was in that position that I truly got to understand how diverse backgrounds can greatly affect a child's educational experience. I stayed with the school for a summer internship with high-school science students. The science programme was academically difficult but provided on-site watershed experiences. Now that I am back in the U.K, I am very excited to work with a new set of students of all ages and backgrounds.

With my experience mostly being set within the classroom, I have learnt that student-centred teaching is the most beneficial way for the student to succeed. Student-centred teaching is formatted to inspire students to ask questions and engage with the material. The length of my lessons reflects this initiative. For younger students (ages six-ten) the lessons should be around 30-45 minutes. I find this length helps keep students focused throughout the entirety of the session. As for older students (ages eleven and up) the lessons can easily go up to an hour. For these lessons, the student should choose the length they find appropriate for their specific needs.
