About Charlize

I am a History Master's student with a strong academic record and a genuine passion for helping students find their footing in the world of academic work. My research background means I engage deeply with complex material every day — and I bring that rigor and enthusiasm into every tutoring session.

My approach is built on understanding rather than memorization. I work with students to develop the analytical thinking, structured argumentation, and research skills that translate into real academic results. Every session is tailored to the individual, I take time to understand where a student is struggling and why, before we work through it together. I do not simply provide answers; I equip students with the tools to succeed independently.

I have a broad academic knowledge base spanning history, politics, society and culture, and I am well versed in the conventions of academic writing, referencing and research across disciplines. I teach in English and am proficient in Afrikaans.

I work primarily with high school and undergraduate students, though postgraduate students are equally welcome — particularly those navigating research, writing or argument development. Whether you are preparing for exams, working on an essay, or building your academic skills from the ground up, I offer a professional, supportive and intellectually engaging space to grow.

About the lesson

My approach is built around understanding rather than memorisation. I work with students to break down complex topics, build strong arguments, and develop the kind of analytical thinking that marks well. Every session is tailored to what the student actually needs — whether that's unpacking a difficult concept, working through essay structure, or building general academic confidence.

What makes me different is that I'm actively immersed in academia myself. I know what lecturers and markers are looking for because I'm navigating that world right now.

I teach in English and am proficient in Afrikaans.

A typical lesson is collaborative and conversational — I don't just give answers, I work through problems with students so they leave feeling capable and confident, not just assisted.

My lessons are aimed at high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate university students, particularly those needing support with essay writing, research skills, academic writing, referencing, history, and general study skills. I also welcome postgraduate students needing a thinking partner for research and writing challenges.
