About Rylan
I’m an educator and coach who believes that learning should be both meaningful and motivating. With a background in teaching middle school science and working closely with student-athletes, I bring structure, clarity, and energy into every lesson or session I lead. I specialize in breaking down tough concepts in a way that makes sense—whether we’re tackling science, test prep, or building better study habits. My goal is always to meet students where they are and help them build confidence, independence, and curiosity along the way. Outside the classroom, I enjoy coaching, spending time outdoors (especially by the river), and hanging out with my two Brittany Spaniels, Oliver and Finn. Whether you’re aiming to catch up, level up, or just need a little extra support, I’m here to help you get there.

-My Teaching Approach:
My goal as a tutor is to make history, government, and political science relevant, engaging, and easy to understand. Rather than focusing on memorization alone, I help students understand the "why" behind historical events, government systems, and political decisions so they can think critically and retain information long-term.
I use a student-centered approach, adapting lessons to each learner's needs, learning style, and academic goals. Whether you're preparing for a test, struggling with a specific concept, or simply wanting to deepen your understanding of social studies, I provide clear explanations, guided practice, and real-world connections that make complex topics more approachable.
-What a Typical Lesson Looks Like:
Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs but generally includes:
-Review of previous material and assessment of understanding
-Direct instruction on key concepts and vocabulary
-Discussion-based learning to build critical thinking skills
-Analysis of primary and secondary sources
-Practice with assignments, essays, projects, or test questions
-Strategies for studying, note-taking, and test preparation
-Summary and action steps for continued success
-My lessons are interactive and encourage students to ask questions, participate in discussions, and develop confidence in their understanding of the material.
-What Sets Me Apart:
As a certified educator and coach with years of classroom experience, I understand how to break down difficult concepts into manageable pieces. I work with students every day and know how to adapt instruction for different learning styles and ability levels.
I bring:
-Real classroom teaching experience
-Strong knowledge of U.S. History, Government, Civics, and Political Science
-Effective study and test-preparation strategies
-A patient and encouraging teaching style
-A focus on building both academic success and confidence
-I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions and engaging in meaningful conversations about the content.
-Who My Lessons Are For:
Middle school social studies students
High school students enrolled in U.S. History, World History, Government, Economics, or Civics courses
AP Government and AP U.S. History students
College students taking introductory history or political science courses.
Students preparing for exams, projects, essays, or presentations
Homeschool students seeking additional support
Whether you need help raising your grade, preparing for an upcoming exam, or gaining a deeper understanding of history and government, I can help you achieve your goals.
