About Monica

I am a TESOL certified trainer with 15 years of experience in teaching English communication, sentence construction and vocabulary to different nationalities from non-English speaking countries like Thailand, Korea, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, India etc. I have also given training in various software companies in Bangalore. My main focus is on speaking "grammatically correct English" rather than "acceptable English". Apart from this, I also take up real life situations like visiting a doctor, booking a ticket with a travel agent, telephone conversation, answering interview questions etc. Many students are not confident in such situations and therefore stutter and stammer. I teach situational English through phrases and role plays. According to British Council, English should be taught in phrases...this helps in developing fluency as well. English should never be learned through translation. If you do that, it's a disaster!! I have also seen that many people go wrong with prepositions. They get confused when it comes to using 'on', 'at', 'in' etc. So there are some important concepts in English which need to be made understood to them. I take care of that.

About the lesson

I design my lessons based on the students' requirements. I mainly follow books by Oxford and Cambridge university press, but I don't follow them blindly. If I feel that my student doesn't require a particular concept then I do not waste time on that. I usually end up designing my own curriculum for my students as I strongly believe that each individual has different needs. I emphasise more on speaking so my classes are usually very interactive. While teaching grammar concepts or vocabulary, I always connect it to situational speaking. My main focus is to make the student feel comfortable and the class interesting.
