About Jorja

Hi everyone. My name is Jorja Gauche. I’m 20 years old In November of this year. I started off my schooling career at St Marys DSG and ended it at Hillcrest High School. I had to move houses as well as schools which was scary at first but I adjusted well and loved every bit of it. I always found it interesting how one person who is teaching a class knows everything about that specific subject. I became very intrigued in the world of educating. Education is a necessity. So, as soon as I matriculated I decided to do my TEFL course (teaching English as a foreign language) just to get some sense of direction in the teaching world. I learned how to plan lessons, teach classes, include specific learning activities which were created to improve the learning skills of a student. It was amazing! I did online classes, with foreign adults as well as adolescents and children. I helped fellow South African students near me improve with their English. It’s such an accomplishment knowing I was able to help specific people get the results they are capable of and deserve. I love it!

About the lesson

As many people would, I always enjoyed learning in an environment where the teacher made me feel accepted as well as made me feel comfortable enough to ask questions no matter how shy I was. Feeling looked down on in a class because of asking something about the topic that you’re not sure of is something I struggled with throughout my schooling career. With my lessons I enjoy thinking outside the box to make the learning experience fun and exciting. School is important, and it’s difficult to focus when all you’re doing is sitting at a desk for an hour straight following the text book sentences while the teacher reads them aloud, it’s difficult when there’s no enthusiasm in the learning environment. I will incorporate games relating to the topic. Fun challenges that get the brain working with a side of an adrenaline rush to keep the students on their toes. That’s an example of the way that I prefer to teach. Interact with the students, be their friend. Make them feel safe and that they can ask anything they are confused about without feeling shy or embarrassed. It’s something I wish all my teachers would have included in the way they taught, so it’s my goal to become the educator I wish I had.
