About Mary
I take my role as a tutor very seriously and strive to provide lessons that are well-prepared, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals. My TEFL training included practical teaching experience, lesson planning, and proven methods for helping students improve in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. With a background in Communication Studies and experience teaching in different classroom settings, I bring both professionalism and strong interpersonal skills to every lesson. Students can expect reliability, clear guidance, and a supportive learning environment where progress is both measurable and encouraged. My goal is not just to teach English, but to help each student feel confident using it in real-world situations.

I’m a TEFL-certified English teacher with experience with in-class, online, and hybrid classrooms. I’ve taught both adults and a mix of adolescent ages; all mixed levels. I hold a certification in teaching young learners with the International TEFL Academy where I studied brain development from 3 months - 5 years, and how if affects language learning. I earned my BA in Communication Studies from SUNY Cortland.
I’m deeply passionate about helping students feel confident, capable, and empowered when using English. I believe language learning should feel encouraging and supportive, not intimidating, and I strive to create a comfortable environment where students feel safe to practice and grow.
As I continue learning Spanish myself and prepare to move to Spain in August to teach English through TtMadrid, I bring a unique perspective to my lessons—I understand firsthand what it feels like to be a language learner. This allows me to teach with empathy, patience, and a real understanding of the challenges and breakthroughs that come with learning a new language.
