About Ilana

I have taught English and Humanities in two Australian states as well as overseas. I am TESOL/ESL/TEFL qualified and have also completed a Dip of PWE in 2012. In 2016 I completed a TAE and taught in prisons. The TAE qualifies a teacher to teach in the TAFE setting.
I write and read prolifically on a range of subjects.
I am patient and love learning and one of my goals is to inspire my students to become lifelong learners by nurturing their curiosity and ability to accumulate knowledge and gain confidence in their own abilities.
I love Australian Literature and particularly indigenous writers as well as the stories of many valued immigrants to this country, Everyone has a story that is interesting and valuable to others. We learn from each other and grow as human beings in empathy and social cohesion.

About the lesson

I craft the lessons and course of instruction to the needs of the student/s.
Lessons for the earlier years need only be 30 to maximum 40 minutes whereas the secondary school and tertiary level students lessons are an hour to an hour and a half maximum.
Any longer is going to be draining for the younger students and I want to maximise their learning potential.
I have taught for 35 years in Australia - two states NSW and Vic as well as overseas for seven years in Israel. There I taught for the families of the Foreign Ministry Embassy staff and also Russian immigrants and finance and banking staff conversational skills. I also taught at an Arab village Kfar Qasem high school students at the request of two Muslim students of mine at an Israeli Technion (similar to an Australian TAFE) until my fellow teacher and I realised it was too dangerous to continue to do so. We risked being kidnapped and so had to stop after 10 weeks.

Verbal expressive skills are excellent, and we are working at supporting expressive written skills. Neil is a keen student who works diligently at his tasks and asks for clarification when he does not understand what is required. Very happy to work with him and map his progress.
