About Joshua

I'm a very easy-going person and teacher, especially confident in my teaching quality and technical knowledge in maths and science. I have gone through most of the relevant syllabuses and exam styles for Cambridge International, Edexcel and AQA boards and am always willing to learn and put in extra hours to answer doubts and find out information for you. I will never answer questions without making sure all of the information I give is accurate and properly contextualised.

I'm currently a first-year PhD student at the University of Cambridge, with a Masters and Bachelors in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. I have been a private and volunteer tutor for the last 5 years working with secondary and sixth form students in private and state school taking primarily online classes but am available for in-person classes if you prefer and are based in the Cambridge/Peterborough area. I took the Cambridge International A-Levels receiving 4A* and 1A in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics respectively and so I am very familiar with and understand the exam techniques and syllabus of the various A-Level formats/providers. My research work takes up most of my time during the week and so will not be available on weekdays before 5pm.

About the lesson

Teaching maths, physics and chemistry for anyone up to A-levels.

I like to tailor and break down the syllabus for each individual student. I prefer having direct communication in order to answer questions and track your progress. I prefer using either short presentations or visual aids as well as using exam questions to contextualise everything I teach. I prefer to add some further context (if it helps you understand the topic better) from my undergrad and postgrad studies as an engineer and a researcher. Finally, I also like to use short online educational games/quizzes to help mix things up.

A typical lesson would last about 1-2 hrs depending on the need of the student. I had been a maths and science tutor for family and friends before I moved away for university. I have volunteered as a tutor for TutorTheNation for almost 5 years, tutoring 7 students.
