If you find reading over the slides your teacher sent and highlighting almost everything just won't do the job, you are definitely not alone!
I personally believe what's always most inspiring, and also most rewarding in maths learning, is not tackling problems themselves, rather thinking about: Why should I do it? Why in this way? How could I have thought of this? Why can't I do it the other way? and etc. Those are essential to understanding maths and using it correctly, and with such a solid foundation laid, exams naturally follow to be much more manageable.
Join me, who is also a photographer and a Japanese learner for some real maths thinking. ;)

For any topic of confusion you propose, I would always first pinpoint what's causing the confusion and construct a variety of guiding problems around that point. While we tackle them together in a productive about-1-hour period, we enhance skills of applying various methods, reflect on how they are thought of, what their assumptions are, and why some methods wouldn't work. Through those, we likely boost our understanding of the topic and its structure.
Such a self-reflected and self-refined learning process is generally very powerful, it helpfully raised 3 of my peers doing IB from scoring 4/5 to scoring 6/7 (which is full score IB Maths); helped a couple of IB physics to score high 7-s, A-level further maths students to score A* this year as well.
