About Tobi
I’ve always had a knack for words—my parents can confirm!—whether through leisure reading, writing poetry and short stories, or engaging critically with complex texts. I studied Philosophy at the University of Toronto and later earned my law degree at Rutgers, where I developed my technical writing for academic and professional audiences. Having grown up in the U.S., Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kenya, and Canada, I bring a global perspective to my lessons and a real appreciation for diverse voices in literature. I especially enjoy helping students gain confidence in their academic writing while still keeping space for creativity. Outside of tutoring, I love baking and horse riding, both of which keep me grounded, curious, and connected.

I work primarily with middle and high school students, consulting first with both student and parent(s) to understand academic goals, testing timelines, and areas for growth.
My focus is on helping students build strong academic writing and analytical skills while keeping room for creative expression. Typical lessons begin with identifying the student’s immediate academic needs—whether test prep, essay writing, or reading comprehension—followed by working step-by-step through strategies toward mastery.
I emphasize clarity, organization, and effective commentary, drawing on my background in Philosophy and Literature/Critical Theory, to help students think critically about texts and develop original insights. Alongside structured practice, I incorporate creative exercises that strengthen voice and confidence.
