About Jay
I have more than 30 years of teaching experience. Those experiences have provided me the opportunity to work with and support students of many ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Work with different skill levels began with my first teaching job. My "to-do list" included working with college-bound students who were enrolled in AP Calculus. At the opposite end of that list were the students enrolled in a basic math skills class. Oh, yes, there were Algebra and Geometry students to help, as well.
The variety of age levels extended from that first teaching experience. I taught math skills to adults who were attending night classes to work toward earning a high school diploma. I also began working with students at the other end of the age spectrum, as I work as an after-school math tutor at an elementary school.
My background has prepared me to provide you with the appropriate support to be successful.

The three dreaded words in math are "show your work". Wait, we should add a fourth word: "show your ORGANIZED work". There are two simple reasons for this:
1. Your organized work allows both of us to see your understanding of the material when the work is correct
2. When errors arise, the organized work allows both of us to see those errors, making the task of improving your understanding that much easier for both of us.
My areas of expertise lie in high school math - Algebra, Geometry, etc. The focus for any session will be based upon your needs and questions. Therefore, if you are able to share those needs and questions before our session, I can be better prepared to provide the answers and support you need.
My goal as a tutor is to make myself obsolete. That means that I have helped you improve your math skills and understanding to the point that you no longer need my support.
