About James

Hi, my name is James and I recently graduated with a Mathematics Degree from the University of Cambridge. I'm currently teaching at a prestigious private school in London and I have had over 5 years of experience tutoring Mathematics. I've also tutored a wide range of students; whether you're looking to simply pass the 11+ exam, or if you need help with Further Maths A Level, I've had experience with it all.

About the lesson

My lessons are very interactive. I like to let the students drive what we go over. If the student is unsure about a whole topic, I would go as slowly as the student needs and then ask about what I taught them in future lessons to ensure the information sank in. From my experience as a tutor, I have found many interesting and simplified ways to explain certain methods or topics to students. My first approach when I just started off was to just apply formulae. However, I later found out students struggled a lot with that, and also just forgot the formula after the lesson. Now I prefer to show where formulae come from in an intuitive way, thus giving me much more successful lessons. Typically, my lessons are 1 hour long. I have found 1 hour is a good amount of time; lessons aren't strenuous and also don't feel rushed. I have had 2 hour lessons before, and they are very mentally straining for both me and the student. My lessons are for all students. I have had experience tutoring 5 year olds and also had experience tutoring A level Further Mathematicians.

We both did a level further maths and I found it quite challenging, if it wasn’t for James I wouldn’t have understood how to do certain topics like integration by parts/substitution.
