About Sydney

I have been singing more or less my whole life, and love trying out different styles. I also play guitar and piano, write music, have some (emphasis on some) music production skills, and am knowledgeable about music theory. As mentioned, I'm very interested in arts and health and the ways music can be used to build self-esteem, create social connection, improve self-awareness, and develop emotional skills. While this will not necessarily work into every lesson, if music and wellbeing work is something you're interested in, I'm definitely happy to plan lessons accordingly! This will sound so cliché, but what I like most about teaching singing is when the student gets confidence that they can sing! So many students come in for their first lesson claiming they cannot sing at all, and in my experience that is never the case :)

About the lesson

I have experience teaching all ages and levels, with a preference for teenagers and adults just starting out. I am well-versed in different styles and my priority is helping you sing how you want to sing, what you want to sing, and in a way that enhances your natural voice. I like to use a variety of methods depending on the comfortability and needs of the student and am always learning new techniques based on what my students are working on. I might make you blow bubbles into water with a straw from time to time :) I also like to incorporate ear training / musicianship and music theory into my lessons, if that's something you're interested in. Finally, I have a bachelor's and master's degree in psychology and love combining arts and health. My bachelor's thesis was on the benefits of music training for various mental health concerns, I've created an online course using music education and performance for mental health, and I have experience teaching music-centred groups in different health and social care settings. I also have two years' experience teaching private singing lessons.
