About Richard

I am a registered guitar teacher on Guitar And Music Institute with my own teaching YouTube channel. I am also currently writing my first book 'Secrets Of Slash'. I have played in various original live bands for the past 25 years and currently have a semi professional originals rock band, Orchid Fox. I have toured the UK several times and recorded at world famous studios Electrical Audio with engineer Steve Albini, (Pixies, Nirvana, PJ Harvey) I have been writing and composing music for around 25 years.

About the lesson

I teach the fundamentals of music with a focused approach on underlying harmony of the three chord types, simplifying complex theory and giving you knowledge which you can put to use in your lead and rhythm playing right away. You will be armed with all the knowledge you need to start improvising melodically over backing tracks or with a band and begin to find your own voice. I teach a practical approach to memorising the fretboard, scales, and demystify 'modes' all based around the triads (3 note arpeggios) giving you knowledge that will stand you in great stead for the rest of your life. You will learn how to build speed on techniques such as shredding, sweep picking and tapping, the underlying arpeggio harmony found within scales beginner - advanced (Major/minor, Harmonic/Melodic minor, Diminished and Whole tone) and learn chord synonyms - the basis for all chord substitutions and harmony. A typical lesson is 45 minutes with given homework exercises to be undertaken in your own time. I have an HND in Modern Music from Edinburgh College. My lessons are for anyone of any level who has a sincere interest and passion to learn and/or improve.
