About Summi
Hello there! I graduated from the IB in May 2024, achieving 41/45 points with 7s in Higher Levels English Language & Literature, Psychology, and Music. I am currently an undergraduate Psychology student at Durham University. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy playing the piano, reading, cooking, and watching Marvel films.
I have tutor experience in giving conversational-style English lessons to Beginner-Advanced English-speakers, e.g., with focus on learning different kinds of expressions to improve their speech quality. My students felt they improved and expanded their vocabulary under my guidance. I also used various ways to understand and explain complex concepts (e.g., visual storytelling) to my peers, and gave them tips to help with their IAs and exam revision (e.g., structuring IAs and active recall with practice questions) that helped me acquire the marks I got. I personally have a lot of appreciation for these fields and I hope to share it with you, too.

My friends and teachers describe me as compassionate and understanding, and a good listener. I aim to understand your individual ways of learning and tailor my teaching approach accordingly. I also like to use modelling, examples, metaphors, and a step-wise approach to explaining concepts, including application to the real-world to enrich conceptual understanding, instead of memorisation.
I have a relaxed and patient approach to learning & guidance. I do not condone pressure-driven teaching as the IB is stressful enough. It’s totally okay to feel unsure of where to start (I was there once) – Let’s look at your work according to the criteria and start building goals from there :)
An idea of what our lessons could be like:
Psychology:
- Going over concepts you would like to understand better at your pace
- Practising and structuring SAQs and ERQs together to develop good exam technique
- Building evaluation and critical thinking skills by practicing Paper 3s
- Personal assistance and proof-reading for internal assessments/coursework according to your goals
- A range of IB Resources for additional learning and course material
- Revision tips and tricks – Optimise your notes AND your method of learning!
English:
- Same as above, but with more focus on practicing papers and understanding the criteria to maximise and develop your understanding on literal and stylistic techniques.
Music:
- Same as above for coursework and resources
- Grade 1-5 Music Theory guidance (including ABRSM) for analysis and conceptual understanding
