About Lois
Your first session starts with a deep dive into your current grasp of power chords and tabs. We listen closely to your progress. I create custom backing tracks so students can practice soloing at home.
This allows you to experiment with improvisation in a low-pressure environment. My 5 years of experience means I can quickly identify where your rhythm drags. Seeing a student finally master a difficult transition is honestly the best part of the job.

Technique is rarely about forcing your fingers into painful shapes. After 13 years of performing classical and folk music across Canada, I learned that movement should feel natural. Holding a BMus from the UBC School of Music provides the academic rigor I apply to every electric or acoustic lesson. Helping 392 students learn guitar has shown me how unique each individual path is for teens and kids.
I emphasize chord transitions and barre chords to build long term strength. Understanding blues progressions helps link theory to actual songwriting. My background as a performer makes me attentive to the finer points of tuning and maintenance. It is interesting how much easier guitar becomes when the gear is set up correctly.
