About Terry
My name is Terry Gitau, and I am a year 12 student who is passionate about learning and helping others succeed. I enjoy breaking down subjects into simple, clear steps and creating a positive, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. As a tutor, I focus on building confidence as well as understanding, making sure my students not only know the material but also feel capable of applying it on their own. I am patient, encouraging, and dedicated to helping each student reach their full potential.

In my lessons, I begin with a quick check-in to see what the student understands and where they need help, often reviewing homework or current class topics. I explain concepts in a clear and simple way, breaking them into smaller steps and using examples to make them easier to grasp. We then practise together, working through problems step by step before the student tries independently with my guidance. I encourage them to think for themselves by asking guiding questions and building their confidence. At the end of each session, we review what we’ve covered, highlight the key points, and make sure they can explain the topic back to me. I also set small, achievable tasks for practice between lessons and encourage them to bring any new questions next time. Above all, I keep the environment positive, supportive, and encouraging so that learning feels engaging and mistakes are seen as part of the process.
