Studying biochemistry at Imperial College London, A Level results A*A*A*A*A*, Head Boy during my last year at school.

It is a true pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation for Daiyang Chen, who has been a boarder and pupil at King's College for the past four years. Daiyang is without a doubt one of the four or five most outstanding students we have had at King's College in the past ten years and the best student of the 200 in our Year 13.

Daiyang is a careful and creative thinker with an eye for detail and a devotion to logic, which serves him well both in the sciences and outside of them. He has the terrific ability to draw on his own experiences and observations to develop thoughtful opinions on a variety of issues.

We have many high achieving students in his cohort, but Daiyang possesses qualities that set him apart, even from other A* students. Daiyang is not only a diligent and dedicated worker, but he does so with calm control, and he is able to take on many tasks at the same time and manage his time excellently. His most impressive quality is his unfailing desire to understand every aspect of the material at a depth well beyond what is simply presented to him. He asks questions daily after class, which challenge my own understanding of the materials taught, and which give him an unshakable foundation on which to build his learning of the A-level course. His questions are always planned and come from personal reading, showing his dedication to truly know the subject inside out."

He emerged from Y12 with a clean sweep of top grades and we have no doubt he will reach the highest standards in his A Level examinations. Daiyang was a natural choice for Head Boy, forming part of an elite group of academic and pastorally minded students who meet regularly to direct the House and School Council. As a leader within the school, Daiyang appreciates the value of his role and builds a first rate rapport with boarders, day pupils, staff and visitors alike. Our school has provided Daiyang with a wonderful and eclectic balance of life opportunities that are difficult to find elsewhere and he has set a terrifically high standard in the classroom whilst savouring and contributing richly across a broad canvas of other activities. His work in tying the school to the Spanish Red Cross will be revered long after he has moved on to pastures new as he has laid the foundations for our connection to the charity to last for many a year to come.

Daiyang is not only an excellent student, but he is also personally delightful. He is as comfortable with himself as he is engaging, pleasant and humorous. As I have come to know Daiyang over the past four years, I have become only more impressed by the wide range of his abilities - and his modesty about them. Daiyang is an accomplished pianist and scientist, both of which he does with a passion.

I wholeheartedly recommend Daiyang as a tutor for any of the subjects he studied at A Level. In fact, I can think of few students in my 20 year career whom I commend as highly.

Daiyang has helped me with Maths for two years now, and I am so grateful to have had him as a tutor. He is really patient, and extremely committed in trying to help you understand anything you need help with in the subject, and I don’t think that I would’ve been able to get my A* without him. I genuinely think that he is the best tutor out of the three that I hired during my A Level studies, and I would recommend him to anyone out there who wants to reach their full potential.
