About Jennifer
I have been tutoring for ten years, and I love helping students learn! My students improve their writing abilities, discover their own voice and style, and succeed in their coursework. As a teaching assistant and corrector at the University of Ottawa, I marked many, many student essays and assignments - so I know exactly what your professors and TAs will be looking for. I have also worked for Ivy Global (Toronto) and the University of Oxford's Disability Advisory Service. I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Oxford, where my own research focuses on women's voices in Old Norse-Icelandic poetry.

If you are serious about improving your writing skills, I can help. If you don't understand why your teacher or your professor keeps marking your essays down, I can help. If you want to understand the rules of grammar and style, and not just memorize them, I can help.
I primarily teach high school and undergraduate students, both native English speakers and ESL students, who want to improve their academic writing. Expect to leave with a more rigorous understanding of grammar and style, an improved ability to edit your own work, and a much better essay.
We can structure the lessons to suit your preferences. If you need help with a particular piece of writing, I will ask you to send me an excerpt in advance so that we can discuss it. I can also provide shorter, more focused exercises on the types of errors that you make most frequently. Alternately, if you have no assignments in progress, I can suggest some topics and you can pick one that best suits your interests.
I can also tutor students in Latin, Old English, and Middle English.
