About Kristian

Kristian Riley is music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles CA. He got his start playing with bands in the burgeoning punk rock scene Milwaukee WI in the early 90s while also studying cello performance and jazz guitar at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He eventually connected with like minded spirits to form the band Citizen King, a hybrid hip hop / punk band. After years of relentless touring, the band found their breakthrough when they signed to Warner Brothers. The band scored a top 10 hit with their humorous single, “Better Days ( and the bottom drops out ) “ on which Riley played guitar. The band never made a second record but Riley continued with a career in production and engineering, recording local bands at his personal studio Bionic in Milwaukee. Some notable contributions came out of of this time, including a contribution for The Promise Ring’s “Wood Water” album and production credits on Paris Texas’s major label debut “ Like you like an arsonist” and Maritime’s “ We the Vehicles” . A move to California proved fruitful as Riley was selected to engineer Silversun Pickup's album “Swoon” with former band mate Dave Cooley. In recent years, Riley has been focusing on artist development with the upstart label Yardlights records. Yardlights released Bandie’s debut EP in 2019. Riley has been busy working on a full length follow up for Bandie as well as focusing on client mixing and teaching guitar. Riley teaches music production and songwriting at Icon collective college of music in Los Angeles.

About the lesson

I provide instruction to beginners and experienced musicians alike who are looking to level up their skills as a guitarist or bassist. I have a deep knowledge of songwriting and music production, having been involved in some chart topping hits as a guitarist, engineer and producer. I also mentor songwriters and can assist in helping you finish songs or develop ideas from scratch. I am passionate about helping you learn the basics of playing and how that can align with your creative goals.
