About Autumn
I studied piano and music theory for eight years with a private piano teacher, Mrs. Bobbi Brown in NC. I studied music theory and voice with Dr. Donald Leroy at Lee University, while taking private piano and voice lessons with Dr. Michelle Johnson. I also served as a piano accompanist for four years for a large children's choir in Charlotte, NC. There were many times the Director needed to be absent, and I would fill in - guiding the children as they learned music theory and singing to match pitch, etc. and we made it fun. I worked in children's ministry for nine years, and developed excellent teaching skills to be able to relate and encourage children in their playing/development.

From the beginning, I look at where the student is in their playing abilities, and understanding of music theory. Every lesson is adapted to the needs of the student. We review assigned homework pieces from the week before - play through, talk about the good points, good habits being practiced, and we play through the song with corrections made. I instill good habits with all students so that these can be applied for every practice. We adapt each lesson to what can help improve and make the student a better pianist. There are often videos sent for finger exercises to play through at home (created outside of what is in books). I creatively plan lessons, advise new techniques and artistic skills (techniques to help strengthen fingers, arch of hands, play chords, scales, understand rhythm, and more)

Details
The average lesson is 30 minutes ($40). Some students sign up for 45 minutes or an hour lesson. Learning to play any instrument and read music theory involves self-discipline. The student needs to commit to practicing a little bit every day, or at least have a structured, consistent routine and practice 4 days a week minimum. I share more about what practice can look like after enrollment.
If you want lessons in-person, it will be in the south Ballantyne area of Charlotte or at a small music school. If you want online lessons, you will need a camera mounting set up for it to be above the keys pointing down.
