About Amy
I have had an interest in science for as long as I can remember and I think this is one of the most important qualities for a teacher to have; a love for their subject! I want to help students achieve their goals in education and especially inspire young people to pursue a science career. However, I think the most important thing for me to do is support these students so that they can reach their potential.
I have had a months training internship in how to teach physics to secondary school students, including talks on science pedagogy and methods of teaching.

I try to make lessons engaging and interesting for the students by including memory games as well as asking many questions to try and cement their knowledge. During my teaching internship I also learnt that the best way of teaching science is to incorporate practicals to engage the students, so I make sure that where ever possible I am reminding them of practicals they have done or relating the science back to the real world to make it seem more interesting. As part of this internship, I also taught a science lesson with an observer assessing me, so I know some of the best techniques for teaching a range of students. Whilst planning this lesson I also studied the teaching syllabus for science.
As I am still quite young, it wasn't long ago that I took my GCSE science exams, so it is easy for me to remember what worked best for me at that age.
My typical lessons would be 30- 45 minutes long. I can help with assessment preparation by going over past papers or helping them with questions they found difficult. I can also spend the lesson going over topics they found especially hard, or simply consolidate their knowledge by games or asking questions.
I can teach up to GCSE level biology and chemistry as I achieved A levels in these subjects and strengthened this knowledge in my first year of University. Even though I didn't take a physics A level, I am confident in teaching it and have experience due to the teaching physics internship. This also developed my physics knowledge and interest.
