About Joy
I devote myself to creating a comfortable, encouraging learning environment and using reliable, efficient techniques for students to grow. To help students establish and thrive within unique learning styles, I celebrate their creativity by incorporating activities and technologies. While listening to their interest and passion, I carefully guide students to build skills upon them in a healthy way. Having fun is what I believe to be the key for thriving in a classroom.

I teach in an extremely customized and friend-like manner, making the classroom lively and fruitful.
Typically, I start from analyzing the students' needs and strengths and places in need of improvements in the first one or two classes, through casual chatting and educational entertainment. I like to use graphics, technologies, games, and videos, as visual and auditory cues for better learning experience and outcomes. I want students to learn knowledge from life, and in turn to be able to apply knowledge learned in our life.
My creativity and flexible working style have sharpened my competences for tutoring. I have strong empathy and teaching experience in various subjects (Math, English, Mandarin, programming, essay editing, dancing), to a diverse audience (age ranging from kindergarteners to adults), and under different classroom settings (in person, remote, or hybrid). I am open to all kinds of students, and look forward to interacting and growing with them in and outside the classroom.

Joy was a tutor in my Stat133 class at UC Berkeley, and I cannot recommend her enough!! She was by far the most helpful of anyone on the teaching staff, and my friends and I would go to her office hours religiously.
She is so helpful and kind and always goes above and beyond. She was on the Cal teaching staff and consequently not paid by us, but she would stay on past the end of her office hours to help work through problems just out of generosity and commitment.
