About Tia

I'm Tia, I'm from Lebanon, I speak English, French, and (some) Arabic, and I love languages. When you speak a different language, you meet people you THOUGHT were foreign and realise that because you're all human, you're the same. The world becomes bigger. As a teacher, the thing I'm most passionate about (other than grammar) is breaking things down to the basics. There's nothing more satisfying than watching people progress at a subject they thought they weren't capable of, a problem I see a lot with languages – which are admittedly daunting! For the record, when I open up a grammar textbook, even for a language I speak fluently, I want to cry. When a good teacher explains it to me, though, using a whiteboard to clarify the hard bits, I realise it's literally fine. And I think everyone should have that moment of realisation.

About the lesson

Hey! I'll always begin by offering a diagnostic test to assess your level, then we'll decide together where to begin. Lesson times can vary from 1-2 hours, depending on what you want/need. I have a 9 in GCSE French, an A* in A level French, and – when I lived in Lebanon – I helped to teach languages to young refugees. I'm prepared to teach anyone up to GCSE level! I know a lot of people find speaking especially hard, so I'm here to help with that by practising (you don't have to worry about seeming stupid, I can guarantee that you're cooler than me). Not only will you improve academically, you'll also be able to visit French speaking countries and communicate with people in their first language – I always find that speaking their language makes it much easier to bond with locals. It's incredibly fulfilling.
