I firmly believe that rote memorization is an ineffective strategy for mastering any subject, especially mathematics. While isolated knowledge rarely helps when facing a novel problem, a deep, foundational understanding empowers students to logically deduce answers across a vast spectrum of challenges.
To achieve this, I structure my lessons into three logical phases:
1) Context & Review: We begin by reinforcing the foundational concepts necessary to grasp the new material, ensuring there are no gaps in prerequisite knowledge.
2) Concept Introduction: Building smoothly on that context, I introduce the new topic. I focus on breaking down its properties and demonstrating exactly how it logically flows from what the student already knows.
3) Application & Integration: We solidify the topic through targeted problem-solving. By working through varied examples, the student integrates the new concept into both their theoretical understanding and practical skill set.
Subjects I teach:
1) School & Test Prep: Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
2) Advanced & College Level: Pre-Calculus, Differential and Integral Calculus, Linear Algebra,
3) Other core mathematics topics covered in high school and college curricula.
