About Dylan
Hi, I’m Dr. Dylan Iverson, a passionate educator and scientist dedicated to making math and science accessible to all learners. With a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and years of experience in research, university teaching, and one-on-one tutoring, I specialize in breaking down complex concepts into clear, engaging lessons. I have a deep commitment to supporting neurodiverse students, including those with ADHD, ASD, and gifted learners. I understand that every student processes information differently, and I tailor my teaching to fit individual strengths and challenges. My goal is not just to help students succeed academically but also to build their confidence, problem-solving skills, and curiosity for the world around them. Beyond traditional subjects like Algebra, Calculus, Chemistry, and Biology, I also guide students through science projects, SAT prep, technical writing, and STEM career development. Tutoring Service Description
My Approach to Tutoring
I take a student-centered approach, adapting each lesson to fit individual learning styles and needs. Whether a student struggles with foundational concepts or seeks advanced challenges, I create personalized strategies to ensure understanding. My background in scientific research allows me to break down complex topics into digestible, engaging lessons.
Teaching Methods & Techniques
Adaptive Learning: I tailor explanations based on the student’s cognitive style, using visuals, analogies, hands-on problem-solving, and real-world applications.
Interactive Engagement: I use an interactive whiteboard for online sessions, enabling students to work through problems collaboratively.
Neurodiverse-Friendly Strategies: I incorporate structured lessons with flexibility to accommodate ADHD and ASD students, ensuring a supportive and effective learning environment.
Conceptual Mastery Over Memorization: My goal is to help students truly understand the "why" behind concepts rather than just memorizing formulas.
Typical Lesson Plan
Review & Check-in: Discuss challenges and wins from the previous lesson.
Concept Exploration: Introduce or revisit topics with real-world connections.
Guided Problem-Solving: Work through practice problems together, focusing on problem-solving strategies.
Independent Application: The student attempts problems with my guidance, reinforcing mastery.
Wrap-up & Plan Ahead: Recap key takeaways and set goals for the next session.
