About Kazumi

Hi, I'm Kazumi, a native Japanese speaker from Kanagawa, Japan.

My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and built around you. Every student learns differently, so I pay close attention to how you respond. I notice when something clicks and when it needs another explanation, and I adjust in the moment.

If one explanation doesn't work, I'll find another way: a new example, a quick demonstration, or a comparison to English that makes it clear.

I believe the best way to learn is to use Japanese right away. You'll start speaking in your very first lesson, not just memorizing rules. Mistakes are always welcome, because they show me exactly where to help and they build your confidence faster.

I'm a lifelong fan of Japanese games and anime myself, so I love helping students understand the language behind the stories they enjoy.

About the lesson

Real Japanese, taught in a way that fits you.

WHO THESE LESSONS ARE FOR
- Complete beginners starting with hiragana, katakana, and first conversations
- Anime and game fans who want to understand without subtitles
- Travelers who want to order food, ask for directions, and chat with locals in Japan
- High school and college students who need support with classwork and tests
- JLPT learners who want a clear, structured study plan

Nervous about starting? Most of my students are, at first. We go at your pace, and no question is too basic.

HOW LESSONS WORK
1. Free 30-minute first lesson: We talk about your goals, check your current level, and build a plan around what you want to achieve.
2. Every lesson: A relaxed warm-up conversation, one focused topic (grammar, vocabulary, or real phrases from anime and travel), then speaking and listening practice so it sticks.
3. Customized lesson materials: I create materials tailored to your goals and level, and share them with you on Google Drive, so everything stays organized in one place and you can review anytime.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Natural expressions native speakers actually use, beyond the textbook
- Clear explanations of tricky topics like particles, verb forms, and polite speech
- The cultural context behind the language, so you know not just what to say but why
- Real milestones: introducing yourself, ordering at a restaurant, reading hiragana on your own, or following a scene in your favorite anime

Lessons are online, or in person in the Snohomish area. We start in English and gradually use more Japanese as your skills grow.

Book your free 30-minute lesson and tell me your goal. You'll leave with a clear plan for where we'll go next!

Kazumi is an exceptional person, who has built the foundation of who she is on respect and kindness. I have known kazumi for over 10 years and have learned many things regarding the Japanese culture, including attending cultural outings and partaking in traditional Japanese meals Kazumi has taken the time to cook for me. She always takes the time to explain things carefully and concisely and if I have additional questions she is happy to elaborate or give a demonstration. She has even provided me with additional links with more information so that I can dive further into a topic if I so desire. If you are considering hiring kazumi to care, teach or guide you or your loved ones in any way, don’t hesitate. She is amazing!
