About Sasha
Hi! I'm Sasha, a current English PhD candidate at Stanford University. I received a B.A. in English literature with a concentration in Russian literature and language from Columbia University, where I also spent five years tutoring. Prior to my undergraduate career, I completed my high school education at Hopkins School, a college preparatory school in New England.
I'm passionate about fostering a love of reading and writing for everyone.

I believe in the value of teaching subject matter through skills that will continue to serve the student as they move forward-- giving them the tools to be a successful, self-sufficient learner for years into the future.
My approach is always individualized and based upon a few foundational questions: what are the student's immediate goals? How can we work on skills that not only satisfy those goals, but also help the student holistically? Above all else, I want each of my students to feel confident in developing their own critical voice.
While I always tailor my lessons and work load to a student's schedule, I often find that assigning writing exercises or a small amount of supplemental reading is an effective strategy to practice new skills. I take a hands-on approach to developing confidence in writing, and encourage students to outline, draft, and revise with me so that they can establish a strong foundation for critical thinking. Students seeking support with test-taking can expect to go through tailored sets of practice problems and prompts.
I have experience with students ages 7-21 and am able to address a variety of needs, including essay writing, college counseling and application mentorship, exam taking (SAT/ACT/specialized high school entry/AP), reading comprehension, and literary analysis.
