About Jack
I am a passionate teacher of four years who specialises in entry examinations for the British private school system. I aim to be highly motivating, personable and funny with my learners, but also demanding when required so that they can be pushed to their uppermost limits. I am timely with reports and homework, sending these to parents on an agreed timetable. Reports on the student's progress are especially important for parents as they can properly gauge the developments which have been made with their son or daughter.
The primary reason I teach is because of its rewarding nature. When my students succeed and gain the grades required to enter their schools, I have made a positive difference in their lives. Often, these students will be moving from abroad and coming to the UK for the first time and it is truly incredible to have played a positive role in changing their lives.
Apart from teaching, I am a writer of fiction. I have written a full novel and I am currently in the process of trying to get it published. I graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters in History and, if I'm not writing, I'll most likely be reading a history book. I'm currently interested in Arabian history.

My lessons focus on school entry examinations for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+. These exams focus on English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning. I also tutor up to A-Level English and History, alongside Geography to GCSE.
I believe motivation is the key factor determining student success rates in exams. This means they need to be encouraged to go through the often difficult materials by their tutor in a fun, lively, engaging, but ultimately challenging tutoring sessions. I make sure to engage my students in a respectful and mature demeanour which acknowledges their intelligence, but when tested, they are pushed to achieve their very best. With difficult tasks tested under timed conditions, the aim is for the tutored student to learn not only how to approach questions and answer them correctly, but to have examination familiarity.
My lessons revolve around examination papers and questions to rigorously prepare students for their tests. Students will gain a comprehensive knowledge needed to succeed in their exams. Their general comprehension will be initially tested, followed by specialist focusing on their major areas of weakness. Areas which are stronger will also be tested to ensure they build upon their question awareness.
Lessons last for a minimum of one hour and can be scheduled for up to two hours.
I have been tutoring for four years after graduating from the University of Oxford. I have tutored for schools including St. Pauls, Brighton College, Sevenoaks School, Westminster School and Eton. I contact individual schools to enquire about any new specifications for exams (which are always changing) and cater my lessons towards these new demands.
