About Lauralee
I have been teaching for a very long time and have never tired of getting to know new students! I love finding out about them and showing them that I know only can be a great resource to help them use strategies to improve their learning, but I also care about them as people and will always ask about their day. Often my students don't get to interact with their friends and family members throughout the day because they have been so busy, so I may be the first one to greet them with a smile and friendly word.
My BS in Special Education and 20 years of experience as a full-time lead teacher, professional development, and lifelong learning have given me the background knowledge to help develop and adjust as necessary fun and interesting tutoring sessions. My most cherished gift over the years has been my ability to see (and praise) students for those things they are already good at (often things they may not be aware of themselves). I feel like my "superpower" is helping them notice and celebrate their progress!

Although I use the grade-level curriculum to plan what I teach, I typically use an assessment to determine the present level of my student's actual functioning as a starting point. Once I get to see what they are capable of, I often use games, such as Education.com, Quizziz.com, and websites such as Nearpod, and Readworks as a resource if I'm not helping with homework. The students I have been tutoring range from 1-10th grade. I have enjoyed working with students in either the full classroom setting during my career or in small groups. But I have always worked additionally 1:1 with students who were struggling, as I supported them in their general education classes as their IEP coordinator. I feel that my easy rapport with students of all ages, but specifically the upper elementary through middle and high school levels has given me the benefit of helping students see that I am "on their side", and here to help them succeed.
